John Edward Harkey, Jr.

Funeral services for Evangelist John Edward Harkey, Jr., 78, of Lancaster, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 30, 2012, from Sherwood Baptist Church. The Revs. Steve Anglin and Curtis Cameron will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Great Falls, SC. Evangelist Harkey died Saturday, January 28, in Springs Memorial Hospital, Lancaster. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John E. Sr. and Sally Bailey Harkey. He was retired from Springs Industries and was the owner of Harkey Lawn Mower Repair. He was also a member of Sherwood Baptist Church and never missed an opportunity to share the gospel. Surviving are his wife; Joyce P. Harkey of the home, two daughters, Sharon Adams and her friend, Michael Eason, Stacey Laney; son, Barry Harkey (Kathy) all of Lancaster, step-daughter; Susan Belk of Fort Lawn; step-son, James Belk of Lancaster, 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; 2 sisters; Carolyn Fuller, Donna Ward (Harold), and two brothers; W.L. Harkey (Ann) and Carl Harkey (Pat ) all of Lancaster. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church and other times at the home, 2140 McIlliwain Rd., Lancaster.
