Funeral services for John Carl Williams, 88, will be held Friday, June 8, 2012, at 2:00 o’clock p.m. in First Baptist Church, 210 N. Matson Street, Kershaw. Burial will follow in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Westville, S.C. The Revs. Doug Martin, Dennis Buchanan, and Joel Poole will officiate. Memorials may be made to Kershaw Church of God, Building Fund, Post Office Box 621, Kershaw, S.C. 29067. Mr. Williams died Tuesday, June 5, in Providence Hospital, Columbia, S.C. Born in Kershaw County, he was the son of the late James Lucas and Minnie Connell Williams. He retired from Springs Industries. Mr. Williams was a member of Kershaw Church of God where he served as church clerk for 55 plus years. He was also a US Navy veteran having served in World War II. He enjoyed his vegetable garden and yard work. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Ellis Williams; daughter, Andrea Bass (Bobby) of Kershaw; grandchildren, Brittany and Benjamin Carl Bass, Stacey Huggins (Adam), and Dawn Saxon (Jeff); 5 great grandchildren, Summer Pinyon, Hayden Saxon, Autumn Saxon, Austin Huggins, and Alex Huggins; son-in-law, Dennis Winburn (Sylvia); sisters, Margie Reese (Gerald) and Pauline Redick both of Kershaw; brothers, Ralph Williams (Ina Rose) and Jimmy Williams (Pauline) both of Kershaw; sisters-in-law, Betty Williams of Myrtle Beach, Ruby Williams of Kershaw and a brother-in-law, Jerry Bradley of Kershaw. He was predeceased by daughter, Carlene Winburn, granddaughter, Sandra Denise Winburn, sister, Marguerite W. Bradley, and brothers, Horace and Eddie Williams. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 7, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home.
