Joe Self

Joe Self, 86, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away Sunday morning, January 30, 2022, at his home. Born in Monroe, N.C., he was a son of the late Ben Self and Emily Viola Mahaffey Self. Mr. Self retired from Springs Industries after 39 years of service. He loved to farm, roof houses and brim fishing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Helen Wilson Self; a son, Joel Self and his wife, Donna; a stepdaughter, Sharon Bowers and her husband, Ricky; 5 grandchildren, Steven, Ashley, Brandi, Taylor and Sidney; 7 great grandchildren, Jayden, Hailey, Khloe, Savannah, Grayce, Gatlin, Phoenix and Hunter; a brother, Jerry Self and a sister, Warneda Sims. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Debra Shipman and Sherry Faile; a son, Roger Self and a step-son, Clyde Christmas, Jr.

The family will greet friends, Tuesday afternoon, February 1, 2022, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Pleasant Plain Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Todd Montgomery will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
