Jo Katherine McPherson, 90, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at White Oak Manor.
She was born on March 28, 1927 to the late Dwight Andrews Bridges and Beatrice Bowling Bridges. Mrs. McPherson was a graduate of Heath Springs High School and Columbia College with a major in English and Speech. She began her career teaching Elocution and Drama at Kershaw High School. Throughout the years she taught music, Second Grade, Fourth Grade and Junior High English and High School English.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Leach (Bunk) McPherson, Jr; her brother William H. (Billy) Bridges, her sister Carol Bridges Beckham Rogers; and nieces Billie Ann Bridges Boan and Mary Carol Knight; and nephew, John Bowling Beckham.

Mrs. McPherson is survived by her three children; Dwight Franklin McPherson and his wife Janice; daughter Reverend Rebecca McPherson Wilkins and her husband Fred; son H.L. (Mac) McPherson III. She is survived by 11 grandchildren; Dwight David McPherson (Seana), Elizabeth Bradford McPherson Donehue (Brian), Anna Grace Gates (Matt); Casey Clyburn (James); David Brent Campbell, Jr, Katherine Langston Campbell, (Emily Anne Thompson), Rachel Campbell Broadway (Scottie), Clint Simmons Wilkins (Lisa) and Margaret Wilkins Carroll (Maxwell), Matthew Horton (Kim), Samuel Jacob McPherson and nineteen great grandchildren, Covington Ward McPherson, Austin Lee McPherson, Sally Carolyn Donehue, Sidney Katherine Donehue, Payson Bradford Donehue, Tommy Franklin Donehue, Colin Ellis Clyburn, Ari Ryan Gates, James Black Wilkins, Caroline Rose Wilkins, Juleeauna Charlotte Jones, Margaret Grace Carroll, Emma Campbell Broadway, Maxwell Sullivan Carroll, Isabella Lenora Broadway, Andrew Simmons Wilkins, Rebecca Eleanor Thompson, Dalton Horton and Mikawla Horton.

Mrs. McPherson is survived by her sister in law, Joan Bridges and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. McPherson embraced life to the fullest, never meeting a stranger and always ready to help others. Her life was centered around her family, whom she loved, and her church, Salem United Methodist. She shared her creative talents, music and drama, in church, school, and the surrounding communities. Having touched the lives of many, she will be missed.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 1, prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:45 at Salem Methodist Church Fellowship Hall with a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 pm. in the sanctuary. Burial will follow the service at Salem Cemetery in Heath Springs.
