Graveside services for J.L. Outen, 79, of Kershaw will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at House of Prayer Cemetery, John Munn Road, Bethune. Rev. Charles Watkins will officiate. Mr. Outen died Sunday, September 23, at KershawHealth-Camden. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Lawrence Odell and Agnes Marie Outen. He retired from Hermitage Mills, Camden and was a member of House of Prayer Church. Mr. Outen also was a avid gardener and was known for miles away for his collard greens. He also loved his church and spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Louise Mosley Outen of the home; 6 sons, Olin Gainey of Hartsville, Robert Gainey and his wife Sandra of Chesterfield, Richard Outen of Kershaw, Bill Gainey and his wife Brenda M.Gainey of Kershaw, Larry Gainey and his wife Brenda Ann Gainey of Union City, PA and Scott Outen of Jefferson; 2 sisters, Peggy Bowers and her husband Randolph of Heath Springs, Brenda Outen and her special friend, Wayne Mosley of Heath Springs; 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 10 great - great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Candy Outen and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Randall Outen, a daughter, Brenda Waites, 4 brothers, W.L. Outen, Everette Outen, Wayne Lawrence Outen and Oscar ” Pete” Outen; a sister, Sylvia Ann Small and 2 grandsons, Billy Ray Gainey, Jr. and David Mitchell Wilson, Jr. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 25th prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home, 1027 Buffalo Creek Road, Kershaw.
