Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jimmie Lewis Montgomery, 83, of the Flat Creek community, Kershaw, will be held at 4:00 o’clock p.m., Thursday, July 26, in the sanctuary of Pleasant Plain Baptist Church. The Revs. Todd Gandy and Todd Montgomery will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Montgomery died Monday, July 23, at Springs Memorial Hospital, Lancaster. Born in the Charlesboro community of Kershaw, he was a son of the late Lewis P. Montgomery and Irene Blackwell Montgomery Kennington. Mr. Montgomery was the owner of Jimmie Montgomery Amoco. He was a faithful member of Midway Baptist Church where he was a member the Men’s Sunday School class. He enjoyed working and taking care of the needs of his customers. He loved his family, fast cars and NASCAR. He also enjoyed traveling after retirement.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years and 4 months, Lillie Mae Catoe Montgomery; 2 sons, Ricky Montgomery and his wife, Lou Ellen, Rev. Todd Montgomery and his wife, Sharon; 4 grandchildren, Cary (Charlie) Medlin, Darrell Montgomery, Neil (Michal) Howie and Kristen Montgomery; 5 great grandchildren, Kinzie Medlin, Bronson Montgomery, Keely Montgomery, Sammie Howie and Dylan Howie; 2 sisters, Jean (Jackie) Campbell, Frances (Pete) Thompson and a brother, Jack Montgomery and special family friend, Sheila Love. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, J.P. Kennington; 2 brothers, Jerry Montgomery and Maxie Montgomery and a sister-in-law, Barbara Montgomery.

The family will receive friends, Wednesday, July 25, from 5:00 to 8:00 o’clock p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the store, 7631 Flat Creek Road, Kershaw. Mr. Montgomery will lie in state at the store, Thursday, July 26, from 10:00 o’clock a.m. to 2:00 o’clock p.m. and his casket will be placed in the church at 3:00 o’clock p.m.

The family would like to thank Springs Memorial Hospital 6th floor nurses and staff, Dr. Juneja and Dr. Afulukwe for the love and care shown to Mr. Montgomery.
