Funeral services for John Edward (J.E.) Watson, Sr., 86, will be held Saturday, August 8, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Kershaw with burial to follow in Kershaw City Cemetery. Rev. Bryant D. Fersner and Doug Barfield, Sr. will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 67 , Kershaw, SC 29067, Morningside of Orangeburg, 2306 River Bank Dr., Orangeburg, SC 29118, or Winyah Community Hospice Care, 1797 Hillsboro Road, Suite 2, Orangeburg, SC 29119.

Mr. Watson died Wednesday, August 5. Born June 23, 1923 in Cheraw, S.C., he was the son of the late Oliver Edward and Vance Brigman Watson. He was the retired owner of Watson Heating and Air Conditioning. Mr. Watson was a member of First Baptist Church of Kershaw where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the Kershaw Fire Department for a number of years. Mr. Watson was a US Navy World War II veteran having served as a medic.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Iva Lee Vincent Watson; daughter, Dianne Sowell and husband, Jerry of Columbia; sons, John Edward Watson, Jr. and wife, Resa of LaGrange, Ga. and Michael Watson of Kershaw; grandchildren, Jason Sowell of Columbia, Chad Watson of Norcross, Ga., Tammy Bowers of Kershaw, and Amy Novak of Fort Mill; great grandchildren, McNally, Emmett and Ellison Sowell, Hayden Bowers and Michelle Revels. He was predeceased by grandsons, Patrick Watson and David Watson, a brother, Graham Watson and sisters, Mabel Wicker, Margaret White, Lou Esther Watson .
