Janet Emma Edward Hughes Sims, age 91, of Kershaw, S.C. passed away, Thursday, December 26, 2024, at her home. Born in Elsberry, Missouri, she was a daughter of the late George Edward Hughes and Mabel Seifker Hughes. Mrs. Sims retired from Springs Industries and enjoyed working as a teachers’ aide in the public system. She also enjoyed her time working in the produce department at Small’s Food Center. She loved her flowers, working in her yard and fishing.
Mrs. Sims is survived by her five children, Donna Helms and her husband, Floyd, Johnny Sims, Darlene S. Watson, Sandra Lucas and her husband, Rocky and Fred Dennis Sims: 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sheila Robinson and her husband, Linwood; 2 brothers, Lewis Hughes and his wife, Judy and Clyde Hughes and his wife, Gwen and her sister-in-law, Minnie Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Daniel Sims and her brother, Berthold F. Hughes.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held, Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Midway Baptist Church. Rev. Larry Plyler will officiate. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends, following the committal service in the church fellowship hall.
