James W. "Jimmy" Horton

James W. “Jimmy” Horton, age 82, of Heath Springs, S.C., passed away, Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center, Lancaster, S.C. Born in Lancaster County, he was a son of the late James D. Horton, Jr., and Dell Hilliard Horton Powers. Mr. Horton retired from Bowater after 39 years where he was a supervisor. He was a faithful member of Heath Springs Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and trustee. He was also a member of Gold Mine Cruisers Car Club and just received his 60-year member pin from Barron Masonic Lodge # 261.


He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Brenda Stover Horton; 3 children, James Steve (Cindy) Horton, Susan Horton (Ronnie) Hicks and William Todd (Randy Willson) Horton, his siblings, Diane (Jack) Cauthen, Wayne (Bonnie) Powers, Harold (Mary) Powers, Sheila (David) Shores and Mac (Libby) Horton, his sister-in-law, Ann Powers and the Stover family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Peggy Long, Mike Powers and Ward Beecher Horton, Jr. and his wife, Lynda Horton. He was also preceded in death by his uncle, Beecher Horton, Sr. and his aunt, Mary C. Horton.


A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 o’clock p.m., Saturday afternoon, February 3, 2024, from the sanctuary of Heath Springs Baptist Church. The Revs. Dr. Frankie Melton and Trey King will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the celebration of life service in the church Fellowship Hall and other times the home.


A private burial will be held in Salem Cemetery with Masonic rites rendered by Barron Lodge # 261.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Mr. Horton may be made to Heath Springs Baptist Church-Mission Fund, P.O. Box 400, Heath Springs, S.C. 29058 or Barron Masonic Lodge # 261, P.O. Box 104, Heath Springs, S.C. 29058.
