Jim Hornsby left this world for his heavenly home with his wife holding his hand on Monday morning, December 7th, 2020, at his home on Lake Wateree, in Liberty Hill, SC, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jim led a full life of service.
Jim was a Navy veteran. He was owner of Hornsby Gun Sales since the early 60’s until the end of 2019. He was also a Concealed Weapon Permit (CWP) Instructor for the State of SC.
He retired from Bowater after 36 ½ years of service. At Bowater he was President of the Catawba Maintenance Local 925 labor union for 26 years from 1968-1994. Jim worked to get benefits in place for the employees he represented which are enjoyed by employees still today. Jim was highly respected among management and the workers he represented. Jim was also voted in as the Vice President for the State American Federation of Labor (AFL) Congress of Industrial Organization (CIO) for 12 years. Jim was named South Carolina AFL CIO Labor Person of the Year by the 39th Constitutional Convention.
Jim was also a Wateree Home Owner Association (WHOA) Representative for Area 12 since the home owners association was formed. He served as 1st Vice Chairman in 1993 to WHOA.
He is survived by his wife, Diana of 37 years and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jim was predeceased in death by his parents, John and Clara Faulkenberry Hornsby; brothers, John and Douglas Hornsby and sister Susie Faile.

Due to COVID-19 a private memorial service will be held.
