James Landon Robinson

James Landon (Lanny) Robinson, 67, born on November 7, 1947, in Lancaster County, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, June 28. He was the youngest son of the late Walter Thomas Robinson Sr. and Louise Faile Robinson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Walter Thomas Robinson Jr. He is survived by his brother, Stoy “Frankie” Robinson (Barbara) of Albany, Ga.; sister, Carole Clark (Roy)of Pageland; Nell F. Robinson,wife of 45 years; daughter, Anna Rhyne (Glenn) of Kershaw; daughter, Ellen Robinson of Redondo Beach, Calif.; son, Will Robinson of Kershaw; three granddaughters: Amelia, Madelyn, and Sarah Claire Rhyne of Kershaw.

He was a proud graduate of Kershaw High School class of 1967 and a member of the Eagles football team which won the state championships in 1964 and 1966. He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.He graduated from University of South Carolina in 1982. He worked as the Environmental Manager for South Carolina Department of Environmental Control (DHEC) for 31 years. Upon retirement, he assumed the role for delivery and maintenance at Thomas Drug Store, Inc. which he co-owned with his wife. He was a service oriented community and family man who rarely took roles in the spotlight; instead he delighted in playing important roles in the background. He lived out his faith in the Lord through serving others on a constant basis. He served his church, Kershaw First Baptist Church, as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and usher for decades. He participated in several mission trips to provide aide to people in need. He served his community through the Kershaw Lions Club for 38 years in various positions, most recently as president. He participated in delivering meals with the Meals on Wheels program, helped with Youth Serve, and volunteered with KARE in food distribution.
He was passionate about classic Ford Mustangs,oldies music, classic films, and was a history buff. He was a loyal and faithful husband, and a loving and encouraging father and grandfather. He had an unshakable faith in Christ that he shared at any given opportunity. On a daily basis he generously gave of himself to his fellow man. He was well known for his friendliness and dependability.

A funeral service for Mr. Robinson will be held at 5:00 o’clock p.m., Thursday, July 2, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church. The Revs. Bobby Massey, Bill Truesdale and Bryant D. Fersner will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, July 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home
