James Kelly, 80, of Kershaw, known as J.B. passed away, Saturday morning, March 14, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Camden, S.C., he was a son of the late George Haney “Cap” Kelly and Zetta Sheorn Kelly. Mr. Kelly retired from the construction industry and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Westville. He always had an infectious smile on his face. J.B. loved his family, farming, dancing, tractors and fishing. He also served in the National Guard.
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his wife, Merita B. Kelly; 2 daughters, Sally Peake, Terita Sue “Punk” Kelly; siblings, Willard Kelly, Pervis Kelly, William Kelly, Larry Kelly, Ed Kelly, Helen Kelly and Fleeter Mae Kelly Jackson.
Surviving are his children, Martha “Cookie” Kelly of Rock Hill, S.C., James “Aris” Kelly of Kershaw, S.C., James “BoBo” Kelly of Columbia, S.C. and Zetta Merita Kelly (Scott) Hathaway of Kershaw, S.C.; 5 grandchildren, Curtis (Monica) West, Samantha West (Jeremy) Connell, Justin (Brittany) Peake, Brandon Hathaway and Austin Hathaway; 6 great grandchildren; a brother, Carol (Anita) Kelly of Kershaw, S.C.; a son-in-law, Bruce Peake of Ridgeway, S.C. and his very special darling, Joyce Stevens.
The family will receive friends, Monday evening, March 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, S.C.
Funeral services for J.B. will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday afternoon, March 17, from the chapel of Baker Funeral Home. Rev. Todd Gandy will officiate. Burial will follow in the Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery, Kershaw, S.C.
