Graveside services for James Furman Hinson, 86, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 22, 2009 in Salem Cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Land will officiate.
Mr. Hinson died Saturday, December 19. Born in Heath Springs, he was the son of the late Furman L. and Mary Evelyn Moseley Hinson. He was a retired banker having worked and served on the Board of Directors for the Bank of Heath Springs for nearly 50 years. Mr. Hinson was a graduate of Heath Springs High and a 1950 graduate of the University of South Carolina. He served on the Lancaster County Commission for Higher Education from its inception in May 1959 until January 2000. Mr. Hinson served our country in the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where he served faithfully for more than 50 years. He was a charter member of the Heath Springs Lions Club .
Surviving are his wife of 56 years; Elizabeth Williams Hinson of the home, two daughters; Susan Hinson Hood and her husband Craig of Simpsonville, Beth Hinson Neal and her husband Bryant of Lexington, four grandchildren; Austin Hood, Jacob Hood, Laura Beth Neal and Bry Neal, a sister; Miriam Hinson Murphree of Mooresville, N.C. and a sister-in-law; Helen Williams Rentz of Bamberg. He was preceded in death by a brother; Paul M. Hinson and a granddaughter; Emily Elizabeth Neal.
The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service in the Fellowship Hall of Salem United Methodist Church.
