A service to celebrate the life of James Donald “Jimmy Don” Benton, 67, of Bethune, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 1, in the sanctuary of Shamrock Baptist Church, where he was a member. Rev. Jackie Knight will officiate.
The family will receive friends following the service in the White House at the church and other times at the home of his sister, Juda Benton.
Mr. Benton passed away, Thursday evening, February 27, at his home. Born in Bridgeport, AL, he was a son of the late George Cleveland Benton and Dorothy Horton ”Dot” Benton. Mr. Benton was a retired diesel mechanic. He loved to fish and was an avid Clemson Tiger fan. He cherished the time he spent with his step great grandchildren.
Surviving are his bother and 2 sisters, George T. Benton and his wife Sue of Rockvale, TN; Juda Benton of Bethune and Susan Bill and her husband Paul of Tega Cay; 3 step-children, Renee Gardner, Spencer Gardner and his wife Christy and Elizabeth Francis and her husband Clarence and a number of step-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-son, Alex Byrd.
