James D. 'Buck' Horton

Funeral services for James D. “Buck” Horton, 85, of Kershaw will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Jefferson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Hospice Chaplin Mark Bredholt and Rev. Terry Corder will officiate. Mr. Horton, widower of Vivian Ogburn Horton died Wednesday, August 8, at his home. Born in Jefferson, S.C., he was the son of the late Tom Richard and Susie Sullivan Horton. He retired from Springs Industries after 25 years and was a farmer and raised turkeys and watermelons. Mr. Horton was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a Gideon. Surviving are his daughter, Denise Mangum (Johnny) of Kershaw; 5 grandchildren, Michael Mangum (Crystal) of Jefferson, Jamie Mangum (Sonya) of Kershaw, Stephanie Sullivan (George) Jefferson, Jason Mangum (Allison) of Kershaw, Carina Mangum of Kershaw; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Horton (Clara) of Rock Hill; and a sister, Willie Faye Middleton of Jefferson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie “Bett” Pigge of Waycross, Georgia and 2 brothers-in-law, Donald Middleton and Henry Pigge. The family will receive friends, Friday, August 10, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home, 4951 Sandy Grove Road, Kershaw.
