Funeral services for James B. J.B. Davis, 84, will be held Friday, September 11, at 3:00 P.M. at Baker Conference Center, 105 N. Minor Street, with burial to follow in Kershaw City Cemetery. Rev. K. David Caughman, Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Baker Conference Center beginning at 1:30.

Mr. Davis died Wednesday, September 9. Born in Chesterfield, he was the son of the late Henry Cleve and Mannie Celicia Griggs Davis. Mr. Davis was the retired owner of Davis Variety Store which he operated along with his wife. Mr. Davis came to Kershaw to manage B.C. Moore and Son's Department Store, a position he held for 28 years. He was a member of First Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Council and was also a member of the Kershaw Lion's Club and Abney Masonic Lodge # 211. Mr. Davis was a member of the Kershaw Chamber of Commerce having a vision along with five other business men to incorporate the Chamber of Commerce making it the only Chamber of Commerce to have incorporation by the Secretary of State at that time on Feb. 15, 1962 and served as their Treasurer. Mr. Davis had an avid love for the well being of the people of Kershaw and made every effort for business to remain downtown and promoted shopping locally first.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Betty Jo Chewning Davis of the home; a son, Jerry D. Davis of Minneapolis, MN. three daughters, Dr. Terry Jo Davis Diamanduros and her husband Andrew of Statesboro, Ga., Dr. Betsy K. Davis of Charleston and Rosemary D. Gordon and her husband Blake of Manning and two grandchildren; Will and Elizabeth Diamanduros. He was predeceased by a sister, Eloise Davis Stancil and three brothers, Leward Davis , Robert Lee Davis and, Junious C. Davis.
