Jack W. Robinson passed away peacefully at his home on June 29th, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 9, 1930 in Kershaw, SC to the late Rev. Grover J. Robinson and Helma Snelson Robinson. Jack’s childhood instilled in him a work ethic that was to last for a lifetime. From an early age, Jack worked on his family’s farm, picking cotton and pulling corn. Some of Jack’s earliest memories were of bringing in stove wood and tending the cows. At the age of 16, he starting working in the cotton mill as a loom fixer. For the next 16 years, Jack not only continued his work in the cotton mill, but also worked doing various other jobs outside of the mill and home to help provide for his wife and two children. He farmed, raised cattle, sold horses, and cut timber. At the age of 32, Jack started working at Mineral Mining as a trucking contractor. After a short time, Jack was named Vice President in Charge of Operations and a few years later, became President and CEO. After over twenty years as President and CEO of Mineral Mining, Jack bought the company in 1988 and remained there until his retirement at the age of 72.
In addition to his years of hard work from the fields to a business owner, he was very involved in his community. Jack was a member of the School Board, served on both the boards for the Bank of Lancaster and First Citizens Bank, and was Head of Operations at Haile Gold Mine. He considered his work at the Haile Gold Mine his greatest accomplishment because he brought the mine back to its "glory days". Jack was also a devout Christian and dedicated member of White Bluff Baptist Church for over 65 years. He served as the Treasurer for over 35 years, a Deacon for 37 years, and on the Building and Grounds Committee for over 40 years.
Due to his successes, Jack always felt blessed, and in turn, loved to help friends, family, and strangers alike. His motto was truly, “It is more blessed to give than to receive”. Jack was a most revered man and the patriarch of his family. He was admired, loved and respected by all. Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Robinson, of Kershaw; his beloved children, all of Kershaw, son Jackie Robinson and wife Pat, his daughter Linda Taylor and husband Carroll, and Wayne Taylor and his wife Jennifer; his adored grandchildren, Chris Robinson and his fiancé Angela Jackson, of Kershaw, Sarah Linden and husband Brandon, of Mount Pleasant, Cody Robinson, of Kershaw, and Claire and Dillinger Taylor, of Kershaw; and treasured great-grandchildren, Jack and Mills Linden, of Mount Pleasant. Jack has a surviving sister, Eloise Robinson Hinson, of Kershaw, and a sister-in-law Aletha Robinson, of Columbia. Jack was proceeded in death by his brother, Grover Snelson Robinson, of Columbia.
