Hudson T. "Buster" Brand

A private family service of love and dedication honoring the long and fruitful life of Hudson Taylor “Buster” Brand (April 30, 1933-December 1, 2020) of Camden, SC, will be held on Saturday, December 5th, 2020, at Jefferson United Methodist Church. The family will welcome extended family and friends at their home (1801 Springdale Drive, Camden, SC) for a drive through visitation on Saturday, December 5th, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. The family will sit outside of the pool house to speak with visitors as they drive through the yard. Friends are asked to enter through the front drive on Springdale Drive and exit through the Chestnut Ferry driveway. Due to the pandemic, the family requests that everyone wear masks.

"Buster" was the youngest of 4 siblings, (Frank, Nellie Grey, Alice) born in Lee County to his parents, Grey and Nell Brand. He was baptized into Mt. Elon Baptist Church in Lydia, SC, and served a life of lay ministry in Savannah Advent Christian Church, Bishopville, SC, Hartsville Advent Christian Church in Hartsville, SC, Jefferson United Methodist Church, Jefferson, SC, and Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, Camden, SC.

He touched the lives of many in his home, in the cotton fields, on the football fields & other sports arenas, in the woods, and on the rivers. He loved and enriched the lives of many in his workplace (Kendall Company, 30 years) and in his Bethune community, where his family lived for almost 50 years. He reached out to the byways and hedges in Lee, Darlington, Chesterfield, and Kershaw counties where he ministered to those in need, sharing his beautiful voice at weddings, funerals, church services, and family gatherings. He gave of his heart and talents to all who crossed his path throughout his life.

“Buster” is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 66 years, Dona Lee McLamb Brand, daughter of the late Rev. & Mrs. Mack M. McLamb of Four Oaks, NC, and Bishopville, SC. His children are Rhonda Kay Brand Horton (Carl) of Camden, SC and Christopher Mack Brand (Kim) of Shelby, NC. His precious and loved grandchildren are Carly Horton, Kelsey Brand, Case Horton(Sydney), Eli Brand, and Chloe’ Horton.

Through his many years of coaching, “Buster” made sure that EVERY child had money for hamburgers after games, whether they had money or not ; therefore, the family requests that memorials be made to “Sacks of Love” at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church and to Jefferson United Methodist Church.

Rev. Michael Arant, former pastor of Jefferson United Methodist Church and present pastor of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church will officiate.

Baker Funeral Home of Kershaw is serving the Brand family.
