Helen Margaret George

Helen Margaret Phillips George, 93, of Camden, S.C., passed away, Thursday morning, March 3, 2022, at Pinedale Residential Center, Camden, S.C. She was born in Lamesa, Texas on January 8, 1929, and grew up in Monahans, Texas where she met her future husband, Charles. They were married June 17, 1949 and had their first 4 children in Monahans. The family moved to Artesia, New Mexico in 1958 where Charles worked as a pharmacist in one of the local drugstores. In 1960 they had their 5th child. Charles and Margaret opened their own drugstore. Margaret helped in the store with bookkeeping along with a myriad other task. Together, they had great success with the store, which was poplar because it had a full-service eatery.

Throughout this time, they were also involved in their church, First Methodist Church of Artesia, New Mexico. They helped lead a Sunday School class for seniors for many years. Additionally, they were very active in their children’s sports and music activities.

They retired in 1982 and stayed in Artesia until 2002, when they moved to Camden, S.C. to be near their daughter and had great times with family.

Margaret was a beautiful, wonderful mother who worked tirelessly for decades to make certain that her children had what they needed. She was a true inspiration for family and friends.

She is survived by 3 sons, Larry George (Brenda) and their children, Sam (Lana), Christer and Isabel, Phillip George (Cathy) and their children, Allison and Andrew and Carl George (Judy) and 2 daughters, Mary Reed and her children, Stephanie, Ellie and Andrea and Linda Van Dam (Abraham Andries).

Interment services will be held, Monday, March 14, 2022, at 10:00 o’clock p.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, S.C. alongside her husband.

Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, S.C. is serving the George family.
