After a long protracted battle with kidney and bone cancer, Harry Roosevelt Hicks peacefully passed away at his home in Kershaw, SC at age eighty-four surrounded by loved ones on December 2, 2017. He leaves behind his significant other-Patricia Hubbard and two sons- Britt and Mark Hicks.

Harry was born on March 19, 1933. His birth parents were Braskey and Ethel Hicks. Harry grew up in a large loving family with his siblings of one brother- Maurice Hicks and spouse Peggy, and four sisters- Jannette Hilliard, Mary Ann Williams and spouse Harold, Patsy Holden and spouse Willie, and Jewel Hagins and spouse Hal.

Harry graduated from Kershaw High in 1953, where he starred in football, basketball, and baseball. Harry made the all state selection team multiple times throughout his schooling in all three sports. He was featured numerous times in the State news paper for his all state selections. In 1952, Harry helped lead the Kershaw High football team to the state championship and won the game by blocking the winning touchdown punt. His athletic abilities lead him to be voted "most athletic" of his senior class.

After high school, Harry was rewarded a full scholarship after an interview with legend head coach, Frank Howard, to play football at Clemson University. His freshman year at Clemson, Harry quickly stood out and played as a starting pass receiver. He continued to be the star player for two whole seasons before being drafted into the military for his services.

Finishing his military duties, Harry returned and rendered invaluable services to the residents of Kershaw township in Lancaster county. He started his employment in 1962 as the Kershaw Recreation Director for Leroy Springs and Company. He continued his employment as director for a hardworking thirty six years, where he then retired in 1998. Harry enjoyed his retired years active within the Kershaw community with friends and family.

Harry was famously known and adored by the Kershaw community and counties around. He was a faithful and active member of his church, Second Baptist in Kershaw for over thirty years. He was a loved member of all aspects of the community including the recreational departments, country club, and local auctions.

Harry belonged to his beloved family including his significant other- Patricia Hubbard, his inseparable life partner. Harry also had his son Britt Hicks with fiancé Chrystal Riley, and other son, Mark Hicks. Harry had three grandchildren- Brianna, Braylee, and Brandon Hicks. He also has two step grandchildren- Justin and Logan Riley. Harry had an extended amount of nieces and nephews who loved and cherished him as well.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 o'clock a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2017, in the sanctuary of Kershaw Second Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery. Rev. Ronnie Hinson will officiate.

The family will receive friends, Monday evening, December 4, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home.
