Harlan Melton

Harlan Melton, age 86, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Friday, September 1, 2023, at his home. Born in Jefferson, S.C., he was a son of the late John Andrew Melton and Lucy Mae Boone Melton. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. He was a carpenter and a landscaper.

He is survived by his children, Harlan Melton, Jr. of Mt. Croghan, S.C., Scott Melton of Ft. Mill, S.C., Benny Melton (Tracy) of Clover, S.C., Tina Adams (Robbie) of Florence, S.C., Gena Melton (Shane Catoe) of Kershaw, S.C. and Karen Moreno of Lancaster, S.C.; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; his sister, Peggy Miles of Jefferson, S.C. and his brother, Harry Melton of Jefferson, S.C. He was preceded in death by children, Evelyn Vinning, Janice F. Melton, grandchildren, Kolt Powers and Dixie Deas, sisters, Kathleen Lloyd, Daisy Donahue and Omega Grooms and brothers, Joe Clarence Melton, Emzia John Melton, James Charlie Melton, Manuel G. Melton, and Chester Melton.

The family will receive friends, Monday evening, September 4, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Baker funeral Home and other times at his home.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 5, 2023, in Antioch Baptist Church, 610 Antioch Church Road, Jefferson, S.C. 29718. Rev. Charles Watkins will officiate. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
