Gwendolyn P. Blackwell

Gwendolyn Parker Blackwell, age 73 of Daniel Island, S.C., passed away, Friday morning, January 12, 2024, at her home. Born in Camden, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Woodrow W. “Joe” Parker and Bertie Twitty Parker. Gwen, as she was affectionally known, was a graduate of Kershaw High School and Palmer College. While she was at Palmer College, she was elected Miss Palmer College. Gwen retired from the Aiken County School District where she was director of the Computer Lab at Aiken Elementary School and Principal Secretary, Aiken, S.C.


She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Erbie E. Blackwell; her daughter, Elizabeth Courtney Barber and her husband, Stuart; her twin granddaughters, Marshall Ann Barber, and Wells Elizabeth Barber; 2 sisters, Annette Lucas, and Kathy (Phil) Dizon; 2 brothers, Eric “Chuck” (Barbara) Parker and Rick (Vickie) Parker; 7 nephews; 2 nieces and a sister-in-law, Peggy Parker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Joe Parker.


A time of gathering and visitation will be held Monday evening, January 15, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Broad & Vine, 1025 Broad Street, Camden, S.C. 29020.


The family will greet friends, Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. in Kershaw Second Baptist Church Family Life Center, 7737 Kershaw-Camden Highway, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.


The funeral service to remember and honor her life will be held immediately following the visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. in the Kershaw Second Baptist Church sanctuary. Pastor Logan Catoe will officiate. The burial will follow in Kershaw City Cemetery.


Memorial donations in memory of Gwen may be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society- Greater Carolinas Chapter, P.O. Box 289, Canton, MA 02021.


The family would like to thank Interim Health, Interim Hospice and S.C. House Calls for their service and care for Gwen.
