Funeral services for Geraldine Leslie Horne Carnes, 89, widow of the late Rev. Thurman Carnes, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2008, in Buffalo Baptist Church, Kershaw. Burial will follow in the Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Don Coppedge, Rev. Dr. Todd Morris and Rev. James Way will officiate.
Mrs. Carnes died Monday, October 13, 2008, in White Oak Manor, Lancaster, S.C.. She was the daughter of the late Wesley Colonel and Bertie Bertha Latzak Horne. She had been employed at J.C. Penny and Sears. She was also a former Substitute Teacher. Mrs Carnes was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School for 60 years and served as a WMU Director. Mrs. Carnes served in many capacities in the church with her late husband, Rev. Thurman Carnes in his 40 years of ministry.
Surviving are two daughters; Carol Alford (Rev. Earl) of Lancaster, and Janice Scott of Kershaw, four grandchildren; Eric Alford and his wife Guynette of Peewee Valley, Kentucky, Trent Alford and his wife Jennifer of Lancaster, Stephanie Dillard and her husband Michael of Fort Mill, Melodie Hinson and her husband Chris of Kershaw. nine great-grandchildren; Dayton, Courtney, Tyler, Logan, Hannah, Kayleigh, Maddie, Jake, and Reid, three brothers; Cletus Horne, Hoyle Horne, and Dale Horne, two sisters; Gladys Armstrong and Nathera Robinson, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Jerome Horne and Lavoyd (Bill) Horne.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 15, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 210 E. Hilton St., Kershaw, S.C.
