Gerald Ray Greenawalt, Jr.

Gerald “Jerry” Greenawalt went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday May 7th, 2017, at the age of 73. He was born in Rimersburg, PA on July 14th, 1943 to Gerald and Marylou McCafferty Greenawalt. Jerry will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his devoted wife of 55 years, Shirley Hoye Greenawalt, and their children, Scott (Marian) Greenawalt, Jerilyn (Donnie) Katherman, Jon (Michelle) Greenawalt, and Kelly (Greg) Solomon. Jerry will also be fondly remembered as “Poppy” by his 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, Kelly (Nick) Bender, Alexis (Dan) Erbe, Spencer Greenawalt, Rachel Solomon, Zachary Greenawalt, Ryan Solomon, Katie Keen, Hannah Greenawalt, Elijah Greenawalt, Noah Greenawalt, Micah Greenawalt, Rhett Bender, Maggie Bender, and Benjamin Erbe. Sisters: Deborah Ferguson, Robin Bowersox, Linda Perschka, and Nancy Aubel. Brother: Dan Greenawalt.

A native of Pennsylvania, Jerry grew up in Pulaski, PA. He was the plant superintendent of Milton Steel in Milton, PA, for 20 years until he retired at the age of 56. Jerry, a 32nd Degree Mason, was a follower of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a member of The Bethel United Methodist Church in Bethune, SC.

Jerry greatly loved the outdoors while hunting and fishing with his family. He was a very talented man with an array of hobbies including duck carving, wood working, wine making, bee keeping, ammo reloading, gun collecting, street rods, and tying flies for fly fishing, to mention a few. Jerry loved his dogs and will be greatly missed by his devoted Yellow Lab “Daisy”.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM followed by a celebration of Jerry’s life at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, May 13th, at The Bethel United Methodist Church, 103 King St. East, Bethune, SC 29009. Reverend John McLeod will be conducting the service and a brief reception at the church will follow.

Memorials may be made to The Bethel United Methodist Church.

An after service gathering will be held at the home of Jerry and Shirley Greenawalt directly thereafter at 2437 Old Georgetown Road East, Bethune, SC 29009.
