George L. Roberts

George Ludlow Roberts, 84, of Westville, S.C., passed away, Saturday morning, September 25, 2021, at MUSC Health – Lancaster Medical Center, Lancaster, S.C. Born in Lancaster, S.C., he was a son of the late George Washington Roberts and Rhoda “Cecil” Rhodus Roberts. He retired from the US Navy after 21 years of service and later retired from Kershaw County Memorial Hospital after 29 years of service.

Mr. Roberts loved to play golf and spend time with his family. He was a member of Refuge Baptist Church.

Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Diane Bowers Roberts of the home; 2 daughters, Susan R. Funderburk and Barbara R. (Kent) Phillips both of Lancaster, S.C.; 2 sons, Davey Allen (Frances) Roberts and Clint Brady (Cathy) Roberts both of Westville, S.C.; 7 grandchildren, Aaron, Gabe, Stephen, Kipp, Ashley, Courtney and Coleman; 10 great grandchildren and a brother, Donald Ray (Gail) Roberts of Lancaster, S.C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Lewis Roberts, Thomas Roberts, Wayne E. Roberts and William T. “Dub” Roberts.

A graveside service will be held, Thursday morning, September 30, 2021, at 11 a.m. in Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery, Kershaw, S.C. with military honors. Burial will follow in the cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the service in the cemetery.

A public viewing will be held, Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from 12 noon until 6 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home. The family will not be present.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Roberts may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
