George "Buck" West

Mr. George H. “Buck” West, 93, of Bethune, S.C., passed away, Tuesday morning, August 23, 2022, in MUSC Kershaw Health Medical Center, Camden, S.C. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late George Gregory West and Virgie Boyce West. Mr. West retired from the Kendall Company, Bethune Plant and was a member of Timrod Baptist Church. He also served in the United States Army National Guard. He loved the outdoors and watching all sports, especially the Carolina Gamecocks.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Sue Baker West; 2 sons, George “Timmy” West of West Columbia, S.C. and Dennis (Dawn) West of Bethune, S.C.; 2 grandchildren, Brandy (Chriss) Kelley and Kelly West; 5 great grandchildren, Kayleigh West, Kimber Melton, Natalie Kelley, Grayson Kelley and Dixie Kelley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Heyward West and Joe West and 5 sisters, Lillian Catoe, Ethel Broughton, Mary Jane Sowell, Sybil Sullivan and Aline Mobley.

Friends may pay their respects by signing the register at Baker Funeral Home, 210 E. Hilton Street, Kershaw, S.C., from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2022. The family will not be present.

A private family graveside service will be held at Timrod Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jeremy Ussery will officiate. Burial will follow in the cemetery.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. West may be made to the Theil Meyer Pet Adoption Center, 128 Black River Road, Camden, S.C. 29020.

Arrangements are under the care of Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, S.C.
