A service of worship to celebrate and remember the life of Gary Wallace Thompson, 71, of Heath Springs, will be held Tuesday, September 18, at 3:00 o’clock p.m. in the afternoon from the sanctuary of Thorn Hill Baptist Church. The Revs. Steve Mackey and Todd Gandy will officiate. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Mr. Thompson, loving husband of 48 years to Peggy Freeman Thompson, died Sunday morning, September 16, 2018, at his home. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late Wallace Brown Thompson and Mildred Vincent Thompson. He retired from E. I. DuPont Co. and later retired from Invista. He was a faithful member of Thorn Hill Baptist Church and a United States Army veteran serving as a MP stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Thompson was a graduate of Kershaw High School and loved to fish and cultivate his vegetable garden. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.

Surviving are his wife of the home; 2 daughters, Angela (Ray) Hayhurst and Melissa (Todd) Gandy; 5 grandchildren, Heath Gandy, Matthew Gandy, Olivia Gandy, J.T. Gandy and Jake Hayhurst; a special adopted granddaughter, Raechel Walker; a brother, Roger (Karen) Thompson ; a nephew, Dale Thompson and special adopted children, Sissy Walker and Curtis Massey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Thompson.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church Fellowship Hall and other times at the residence.
