Funeral services for Gary Gene Ellis will be held Thursday, December 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Baker Funeral Home with burial to follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Westville. Revs. Doug Martin and Joel Poole will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 29, from 6:00 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Kershaw Church of God, 138 Pine Ridge Drive, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.
Mr. Ellis died at his residence Tuesday, December 28. Born in Kershaw, he was the son of
the late Andrew Jackson and Leila Phillips Ellis. He had retired from Springs Industries after 40 years. Gene was a member and Trustee of Kershaw Church of God where he was also involved in mission fundraisers, a member of the Men's Council and the Board of Trustees. Mr. Ellis loved racing cars, he was involved in racing and being a mechanic at Lancaster Motor Speedway for more than 30 years.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Sara Bowers Ellis; son, Charles Ellis (Brenda) of Kershaw; grandchildren, Beth Ellis, of Greenwood, Brandy Ellis, and Nickolas Ellis both of Kershaw; sisters, Iva Mae E. Bowers, Ruth E. Williams (Carl) Vera Lee E. Langley, Bonnie E. Snipes (Crawford), Dianne E. Sims (James), and Vivian E. Cauthen (Jimmy) all of Kershaw; adopted brother, Quincy Buddy Blackwell of Lancaster. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sara Lynn Ellis, sisters, Elizabeth E. Waites and Margie E. Conyers; a brother, L.J. Ellis and 2 brothers -in-law; Carl Bowers and Ed Langley.
