Furman W. Broughton

Furman W. Broughton, age 95, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Friday, August 16, 2024, at his daughter’s home in Pawleys Island, S.C. Born in Kershaw, S.C., he was a son of the late Furman “Doc” Broughton and Eva Williams Broughton. Furman was a former supervisor for Spring Industries in the weave room and a member and Deacon of Kershaw Second Baptist Church. He enjoyed working in his garden, sharing the fruits of his labor with his neighbors and friends. He also enjoyed walking and spending time outdoors. While living on Pawleys Island for the last few years, Furman loved being close to all his family and spending time with them. He also loved his daily walks to the boat landing. His smile and waves as he walked fostered many new friendships along the way.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ethel West Broughton, and his siblings, Henry M. Broughton, Hillard Broughton and Verda Mae Roberts.

He is survived by his sister, Shirley Phillips; his daughter, Vicky Cauthen (Ronnie), his son, Randy Broughton (Christy); five grandchildren, Kim (Hope), Melanie (Buz), Brandon (Allison), Brentley (Victoria) and Alicia, eleven great grandchildren, Justin (Sophia), Jalen (Valeria), Trey (Ava), Carolina, Rivers, Aubrey, Charlotte, Max, Brooks, Eliza and Finn; one great-great grandchild, Luca, and three special caregivers who became family, Ruby, Takoya and Chrissy.

The family will receive friends, Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. in the sanctuary of Kershaw Second Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held in the sanctuary immediately following the visitation at 2:00 P.M. The Revs. Dr. T. Jason Moss and Jamie Rogers will officiate. The burial will follow in Kershaw City Cemetery.
