A funeral service for Francis Gilbert “Gil” Raymond, 72 of Kershaw, SC will be held Sunday, August 31, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Kershaw Second Baptist Church. The Rev. Peter Raymond and Mr. Trenton Raymond will conduct the service. Burial will immediately follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery. The family will receive friends informally prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Mr. Raymond’s casket will also be placed in the sanctuary of the church at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials contributions in Mr. Raymond’s memory be made to Central Missionary Clearinghouse ( for children’s playground equipment), P.O. Box 219228, Houston, TX 77218-9228. Mr. Raymond went to be with his Lord of 52 years on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at his son’s home in Monroe, NC. Born September 10, 1942, in Taylor Valley, New York, he was a son of the late Henry Hakes and Maggie Fox Raymond. After trusting in Jesus Christ as his savior and Lord on April 2, 1962, Mr. Raymond served in many capacities as a member of several Baptist churches, including church trustee, deacon, Sunday School teacher, greeter and friend. Mr. Raymond loved God and loved to brag on him. His tombstone reads simply “Saved”. His favorite Bible verses were Ephesians 2:8-10. He was currently a member of Kershaw Second Baptist Church and was a happy, God fearing man, a loving father and friend to all. Mr. Raymond loved to worship the Lord, sing his praises and enjoy the friendship of other believers. Mr. Raymond by occupation was a engineer and enjoyed restoring antique tractors, making machines, gardening and was a great cook. He also served in the Army National Guard. Surviving are his daughter, Ann M. Raymond of Pensacola, FL; his son, Matthew G. Raymond and his wife Carilyn of Monroe, NC; three grandchildren, Trenton Raymond, Elisa Raymond, Nickolas Raymond; three brothers, Fred Raymond of Pitcher, NY, Rev. Peter Raymond of Chapparral, New Mexico, Lee Raymond of Oxnard, CA; two sisters, Margaret Burns of De Ruyter, NY and Marjorie Banks of Cortland NY. He was preceded in death by a sister, Adah Raymond; a brother, Irving Raymond and his second wife, Frances F. Bradley Raymond.
