Evelyn Thompson, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday evening, February 28, 2013 surrounded by her children and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, the Rev. Ralph D. Thompson. In addition, she was preceded in death by one sister, Iva Horton of Kershaw, South Carolina and two brothers, J. T. Hunter, Jr. and Jack Hunter of Kershaw, South Carolina. She was born on January 18,1927 to the late John Thomas Hunter and Ida Belle Taylor Hunter of Kershaw, South Carolina. In addition to being a dedicated wife and mother, she was a skilled Bible teacher and scholar. She had many interests. She loved music, reading , word puzzles, cooking and baking. She had a passion for house plants-particularly African violets. She enjoyed sewing and made many of her own clothes and was very much admired for her handmade wedding gowns. She is survived by her two children, Beverly Thompson and Drennan Thompson of Charlotte, NC and close family friend, Dr. Frances Exum of Charlotte, NC. In addition to many nieces and nephews, she is also survived by three sisters, Edna Threatt of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Shirley Robinson of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Pat Small of Florence, South Carolina. A service of praise and thanksgiving celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, March 9, at 3 PM at Sand Hill Baptist Church in Kershaw, South Carolina with the Rev. Chadwick Ivester officiating and Mrs. Dena Lucy, a close family friend, giving the eulogy. A graveside service will precede the church service in the church cemetery at 2 PM.
