Edna Coats Phillips

Funeral service for Edna Coats Phillips, 85, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 21, 2009, in Bethany Baptist Church, Westville. The Rev. Craigan Blankenship and Dr. Charles Rabon will officiate.

Born in Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Ben Henry and Gertrude Fletcher Coats. Mrs. Phillips died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, in Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, Columbia. She was a former school teacher and librarian. She was a graduate of Berry College and continued her studies at Winthrop College and Appalachian State. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was church librarian.

Surviving are her husband; William Scott Phillips of the home, her twin brother; Edward H. Coats of Kershaw and two sisters; Emma Watkins of Camden and Geneva Fuquea of Ranger, GA. and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother; Henry Coats and four sisters; Mary Faulkenberry, Anna Truesdale, Willene Phillips and Ruby Goforth.

The family will receive friends, Friday, March 20, 2009, from 6 to 8 P.M. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home, 304 West Street, Kershaw.
