Douglas H. "Chick" Williams

Douglas Hilton “Chick” Williams, age 103, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Saturday morning, December 31, 2022, in Karesh Long Term Care and Rehab, Camden, S.C. He was born in Kershaw, S.C., August 25, 1919, to the late Maurice and Mazie Hilton Williams. On January 7, 1941, Mr. Williams enlisted in the Army/Air Corps in World War II and was honorably discharged on August 31, 1945. While serving he served as a radio operator. He flew 289 combat missions and 314 combat hours receiving the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star medals.


Mr. Williams was married to Claudia Neal Williams until her death, September 2005, having been married 59 years. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Kershaw, where he served in various capacities. Mr. Williams was employed with Archer Daniels Midland Co. as a merchandiser and served on the Lancaster County Water and Sewer Board for 39 years and a board member of the John T. Stevens Foundation for 31 years. Mr. and Mrs. Williams loved to travel. He visited every state in the United States and every province in Canada before his passing.


He is survived by 2 sons, Lanny M. (Delilah) Williams of Camden, S.C. and Stephen D. (Lisa) Williams of Kershaw, S.C.; 2 grandsons, Christopher (Wendy) Williams of Bethune, S.C. and Kent D. (Amanda) Williams of Kershaw, S.C.; 4 great grandchildren, Austin (Makalya) Williams, Alyssa Williams, Connor Williams and Caroline Williams and 2 great - great grandchildren, Bradley Williams and Lilly Williams.


In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Beth Gay and 2 brothers, Clifford Williams and Marcus “Bang” Williams.


A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 5, 2023, in Kershaw City Cemetery with military honors. Burial will follow in the cemetery.The Revs. Bryant D. Fersner  and Steve Nealwill officiate.


The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the cemetery.


Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Williams may be made to the church of one’s choice.
