A funeral service for Doris McCaskill Gardner, 83 of Kershaw, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015, in the sanctuary of Sand Hill Baptist Church, Kershaw. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery. The Revs. Bobby Joyner will officiate. Mrs. Gardner, widow of Thomas Jackson “T.J” Gardner, Jr. died Wednesday, April 8, at her home. Born in Bethune, she was a daughter of the late Norman Wesley and Bernice Bradley McCaskill. She was a substitute teacher for many years and was a former employee of the Lancaster County Detention Center. Mrs. Gardner was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking for everyone in her neighborhood. She also enjoyed walking and gardening. Surviving are six children, Sandy G. Camp and her husband Danny of Blythewood, Denise G. Butler and her husband Ray of Elizabethtown, KY, Russell Gardner and his wife Dianne of the home, Myra G. Mackey and her husband Chuck of Lugoff, Penny F. Smith of Kershaw, Stephanie M. Gardner of Columbia; four grandchildren, Shawn Thomas Gardner of Kershaw, Jennifer Cobb and her husband Adam of Elizabethtown, KY, Marty Faile of Blythewood, Megan Drye and her husband Cameron of Kershaw; a sister, Carolyn Jean Redick of Summerville and her canine companion, Mac. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Ernest, Norman, Jr., Peggy, Bobbie and Tommy. The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, Naomi Anthony, Alice Faye Singleton, Ann Pate and Felecia Dunlap. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 10, at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home, 504 S. Minor St., Kershaw.
