Doris Dale Clemons Cox, 78, of Pawleys Island, South Carolina and formerly of Kershaw, South Carolina entered into rest at Conway Medical Center late in the evening on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. A quiet graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Kershaw City Cemetery in Kershaw. The graveside service will be for immediate family only.
Dale was born on June 3, 1932 in Kershaw, SC to the late Charles John Clemons and Elise Crenshaw Clemons of Kershaw, SC. At the age of six, her parents death led her grandparents, James Thomas Crenshaw and Ammadine William Crenshaw, of Kershaw, SC, and great aunt Ida Crenshaw of Kershaw, SC to raise Dale and her younger brother Tobey Clemons of Kershaw, SC, whom she dearly loved. Tobey Clemons married Gene Turner of Lexington, SC, and they have two daughters, Marti Clemons Hamilton of Arlington, TX and Beth Clemons Hall of Olney, TX. She fondly recalls her childhood with her grandparents and growing up in Kershaw, SC with her brother. Dale was a member of the Center Grove Baptist Church in Kershaw, SC in her childhood, and she and her husband Isaac are members at Pawleys Island Baptist Church.
Dale's first job was a sales clerk at the Kershaw Dime store at the age twelve. She worked at the Kershaw Cotton Mill in her teenage years. Dale was then happily married November 16th 1948 to Isaac Gerald Cox of Kershaw, SC. She was proud to celebrate their 62nd year of marriage this past November. She later worked at the PX Travis Airforce Base in Vallejo, CA, the Springs Mill office in Lancaster, SC, the Dupont Corporation in Lugoff, SC, First Citizens Bank in Columbia, SC, Sea Banks Motel in Myrtle Beach, SC, and Deloach Realty Company in Camden, SC. She retired to Litchfield Beach, SC in 1982. Dale said the greatest love in her life were her husband and her three children, James Crenshaw, Deborah Ann, and Patricia Dale. Dale lived life to the fullest, and she enjoyed cooking for family and friends, reading various genres of literature, playing the piano, researched her family lineage, visiting with friends and family at her home, and working on her computer.
Dale is lovingly survived by her husband, Isaac Gerald Cox of Pawleys Island, SC; two daughters, Deborah Ann Caye of Augusta, GA and Patricia Dale Cox of Fresno, CA; one son, James Jimmy Crenshaw Cox of Surfside Beach, SC; grandchildren, Gregory Jay Hinkson of Rochester Hills, MI, Ashlee Hinkson Warner of Atlanta, GA, Brittaine Mechelle Hinkson of Charleston, SC, Jayson David Hinkson of Atlanta, GA, Charles G. Caye III of Augusta, GA, Caroline Cassius Caye of Augusta, GA, Kelly Marie Rosvold of Los Angelos, CA, Eric Michael Rosvold of Fresno, CA; great-grandchildren, Dylan Michael Gunnels of Aiken, SC, Haley Stephanie Hinkson of Rochester Hills, SC, Griffin Gregory Hinkson of Rochester Hills, SC, Darby Grace Hinkson of Rochester Hills, SC, and Boden Kristian Hinkson of Rochester Hills, SC. Dale was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Elise Crenshaw of Kershaw, SC, her brother Tobey Clemons of Kershaw, SC, and granddaughter, Stephanie Hinkson Gunnels of Aiken, SC.
The family will joyfully receive friends at the home of Betty Cox, 6963 Kershaw- Camden Highway in Kershaw after the graveside service, on May 1, 2011 from 2pm to 5pm.
