Funeral services for Dora Lee Brown Smith, 89, of Cassatt will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2011 in Beaverdam Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Revs. Steve Leigh and Homer Hinson will officiate.

Mrs. Smith, widow of Lawrence E. Smith, Sr. died Monday, April 25, in A. Sam Karesh Longterm Care, Camden. Born in Bishopville, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Davis and Mattie Dority Brown. Mrs. Smith was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family. She was also the valedictorian of her graduating class from Ashwood High School.

Surviving are 7 children; Barbara (G.W.) Smith of Cassatt, Lawrence E. Smith, Jr. (Janet) of Cassatt, Glen Smith (Nancy) of Lugoff, Jerry Smith (Vicki) of Cassatt, Jimmy Smith (Debra) of Cassatt, Phillip Smith (Cindy) of Camden and Pam Julian (Dave) of Camden, a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, her sister; Jeanette Rabon of Cassatt. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

The family will receive friends, following the service in the church fellowship hall and from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at the home, 2196 Porter Road, Cassatt.
