A funeral service for Donnie Phillips, 75 of Kershaw will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 9, 2015, in Flat Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors. The Revs. Bart Miles and Eddie Price will officiate. Mr. Phillips died Monday, April 6, at his home. Born in Kershaw, he was a son of the late Minton Wesley, Sr. and Deanie Robinson Phillips. He retired from Springs Industries after 37 years of service. He also was the Recreation Department Coordinator for the Flat Creek Township and a avid Clemson Tiger Fan. Mr. Phillips was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Training Union Director, RA Leader and Baseball Coach. He also served in the US Army and was a graduate of Flat Creek High School. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Frankie Gardner Phillips; a son, Donnie J. “Don” Phillips, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Monroe, NC; a daughter, Jackie P. Shealy and her husband Michael of Gilbert; four grandchildren, D.J. Phillips and his fiancé Alex Payne, Derek Phillips, Bryson Shealy and Jackson Shealy; two brothers, Minton (Carol) Phillips of Kershaw, J.W. (Kathy) Phillips of Lancaster; two sisters, Joyce P. Watts of Kershaw and Catherine (Calvin) Blackmon of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Lucas, Dot Bolton and Faye Phillips. The family will receive friends following the service in the sanctuary of the church and other times at the home, 8498 Flat Creek Rd., Kershaw. Memorials may be made to Flat Creek Baptist Church, 3737 Victory Rd., Kershaw, SC 29067 or Early Autism Project 2580 Lin-Do Court, Sumter, SC 29150 in honor of Jackson Shealy.
