Darlene Frances Welch Thompson, age 69, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Thursday morning, January 18, 2024, at her home. Born in Fayetteville, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Kenneth Welch and Frances Marie Temples Welch. Mrs. Thompson retired as a bus driver from Lancaster County School District after more than 20 years of service. She enjoyed working in her yard. She was especially fond of her rose bushes.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 34 years, Dennis C. Thompson; her son, Bengi Black and his wife, Melissa, 2 daughters, Sabrina McManus and her fiancé, James Auton and Gladys Thompson and companion, Josh Alford; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and 3 sisters, Doris Ashcraft, Linda Thorp, and Pamela Sikes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Welch.
The family will greet friends, Sunday afternoon, January 21, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Freedom Freewill Baptist Church, 1697 North Rocky River Road Lancaster, S.C. 29720.
A funeral service to remember the life of Mrs. Thompson will be held at 3:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation at the church. Rev. Mitch Ingram will conduct the service.
The burial will follow in the Taxahaw Cemetery, Nature Reserve Road, Kershaw, S.C.
Memorial remembrances in memory of Mrs. Thompson may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
