Funeral services for Dan B. Blackmon, 83, of Lancaster will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Hyde Park Baptist Church. Rev. Charlie Simmons will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Memorial Park. Mr. Blackmon died Wednesday, November 14, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach. Born in Heath Springs, he was the son of the late Hunter James and Bertha Caroline Couch Blackmon. Mr. Blackmon was a former instructor of Machine Tool Technology for York Technical College and a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church. Mr. Blackmon also volunteered and was a member of the American Red Cross, local and national chapters. He also served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. Surviving are his wife; Belinda Ogburn Blackmon of the home, 2 sons; Dean Blackmon and his wife Gail and Danny Blackkmon all Lancaster, 2 daughters; Joanne Sims and her husband Randall of Heath Springs and Doris Roberts and her husband Eric of Rock Hill, 8 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, a brother; Alva Blackmon of Myrtle Beach, 4 sisters; Ruth Shehane, Julia Gainey, Elves Ray all of Lancaster and Polly Meetze of Columbia. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters; Helen Phillips, Marion Taylor, Marie Phillips, Caroline Blackmon and 2 brothers; Melvin Blackmon and Wadell Blackmon. The family will receive friends, Friday, November 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw and other times at the home, 793 Bailey Rd., Lancaster. Memorial contributions may be made to Hyde Park Baptist Church, 1898 Flat Creek Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or American Red Cross, Upper Palmetto Chapter, 200 Piedmont Blvd., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
