Crawford Lee Faile, son of the late Ona Lee Helms Faile and John Thomas Faile, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 5, 2022. He was born August 7, 1934, in the Charlesboro community. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Laura Bradley Faile; his daughter, Resa F. Blackmon (Charles); his granddaughter, Shere B. Catoe (Jimmy); his great grandchildren, W. Chandler Norville (Lilly), Grace McKittrick Wallace (Nic) and Molly D. McKittrick; 3 sisters, Bobbie F. Catoe, Nancy F. Phillips and Shirley F. Edwards and special niece, Jerry Faulkenberry. Crawford worked for Springs Industries for many years and retired as a self-employed painter in 1998.
Crawford loved his family and was a significant part of their daily lives. He drove the children to school and other activities. They later drove him for lunch and ice cream outings. He was always up for ball games, golf outings, beach trips and whatever his family planned. He enjoyed every moment spent with his family.
One of his proudest achievements was his small plane pilot's license and he often reminisced about flying. One of his most infrequent and reluctant passengers was his wife; his most trusting passengers were his daughter and her friends. After his retirement, Crawford enjoyed doing yard work and tinkering in his workshop.
Crawford loved his Savior Jesus Christ and was a longtime active member of Sand Hill Baptist Church where he served as church treasurer for 31 years and was a deacon. He shared his love of Christ with all he met by giving pens, bracelets, and flashlights inscribed with Bible verses and encouraging sentiments of God’s love. Crawford’s loving, humble nature was a testimony to God’s love he shared with all he met.
In addition to his parents, Crawford was predeceased by 3 brothers, J.T. Faile, Morris Faile, Rex Faile; and a sister, Reba F. Taylor.
A service remembering his life will be held in the sanctuary of Sand Hill Baptist Church, 6895 Bethune Highway, Kershaw, S.C., on Monday, March 7, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. with graveside services immediately following in the church cemetery. The Reverends Michael Owens and Bobby Joyner will lead the services.
Memorials in memory of Mr. Faile may be directed to Sand Hill Baptist Church, 6895 Highway 341, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.
The family extends their most sincere thanks to the brotherhood of Sand Hill Church for building a ramp that allowed him to continue to spend time outside; the women of Sand Hill Baptist Church for the many meals, calls and visits; and to the Reverend Michael Owens, who introduced him to Edy’s chocolate ice cream, and whose regular visits Crawford anticipated with pleasure.
Baker Funeral Home is serving the Faile family.
