Funeral services for Claude Levale “Deepie” Clark, 89, a lifelong resident of Heath Springs, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 12, 2011, in Heath Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery. The Revs. Dr. Frankie Melton, Paul Smith and Richard Anthony will officiate. Mr. Clark, widower of Jacqueline ”Jackie” Adams Clark to whom he was married to for 62 years, passed away Saturday, July 9, at the home of his daughter. Born in Heath Springs, he was the son of the late Jason A. and Kate Stover Clark. He along with his late wife owned and operated Clark’s Grocery in Heath Springs and he became well known as the small town’s local butcher. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and World War II Navy Veteran. He was a member of Heath Springs Baptist Church, Barron Masonic Lodge # 261, and Beaver Creek Hunting Club. He will be remembered most for his quick wit and love for overseeing the many building activities that he enjoyed so much. Surviving are 3 daughters; Rita Gay (George) of Kershaw, Jennifer (Dennis) Rogers of Heath Springs, Kayra (Doug) Kirk of Heath Springs, a son; Charles J. (Jackie) of Heath Springs, 7 grandchildren; Crystal Vincent, Maresa Bush, Jason Clark, Kristen Rogers, Amanda Clark, Lauren Kirk and Kaitlyn Kirk, 5 great grandchildren; Brad Hinson, Ryan Hinson, Khia Clark, Cole Truesdale and Lily Truesdale, 2 sisters–in-law; Louise Baker of Kershaw and Joan Bridges of Heath Springs. He was preceded in death by his sister; Nancy Catherine Newsom, his brother; Hal Melvin Clark and his grandson; Justin Neal Rogers. The family will receive friends following the burial in the Heath Springs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home of his son, 304 West Caston Street, Heath Springs. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Heath Springs Baptist Church, Post Office Box 400, Heath Springs, S.C. 29058.
