Christopher H. Burns

Christopher Harper “Chris” Burns, age 84 of Camden, S.C. passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 21, 2023, at his home. Born in Lancaster, S.C., he was the only child of the late Christopher Fitzsimmons Burns and Frances Harper Burns. Mr. Burns was a 1959 graduate of Lancaster Senior High School. Chris served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 until 1965. He retired after 34 years of service with the Glidden Paint Company, serving as a Service Center Supervisor. In 1984 Chris joined President Ronald Reagan’s Republican Task Force and served for four years. Chris was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia, S.C. He loved Clemson Football, the Marines Corps, and cowboy and western movies.


He is survived by a son, Christopher Ty Burns and his wife, Amy; goddaughter, Tina Catoe Ross and her husband B.C.; 4 grandchildren, Kirstin Burns, Victoria Burns Hammond and her husband Justin, Jessi Catoe, and Taylor Leaphart and his wife, Diamond and 3 great grandchildren, Rowen Hammond, Willie Catoe and Boeing Leaphart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Cauthen Burns in 2020.


A service to honor his life will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in Baker Funeral Home Chapel, 210 East Hilton Street, Kershaw, S.C. 29067 with military honors. Rev. Keith Hinson will officiate. He will be laid to rest with his wife.


The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.


Memorials remembrances may be made to First Baptist Church of Columbia – TV ministry, 1306 Hampton Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201 or the Oliver Gospel Mission, 1100 Taylor Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201 in memory of Mr. Burns.
