Charlie Joe Reeves

Charlie Joe Reeves, 89, of Kershaw, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2021, at Kershaw Health Medical Center, Camden. Joe was born June 6, 1931, in Kershaw to the late John Charlie Reeves and Mae Outen Reeves. Joe served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Denver, Colorado. Upon completion of his military service, he entered the workforce of Springs Mills in Kershaw. Joe was known for his work ethic at Springs, later renamed Springs Industries, retiring after 38 years of service with 19 years in the position of Research Lab Supervisor. Joe loved his work and made lifelong friends from his many years at Springs.

In addition, he served Springs Industries as a member of the Credit Committee when Springmaid Federal Credit Union opened the Kershaw branch office. Later known as Founders Federal Credit Union in 1993, Joe served on the Board of Directors of the Springmaid Federal Credit Union of Lancaster from 1987 to 1993. Joe was also known for his wry sense of humor, and especially for his devotion to his family and friends. His numerous interests included landscaping, the Kershaw Bowling Center “Mets League,” family celebrations, and music. Joe was a fan of NASCAR Team #21 Wood Brothers Race Team and was an avid fan of college football, especially Clemson and Virginia Tech. He was a faithful lifelong member of Second Baptist Church of Kershaw, serving on the Finance Board and other positions.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Eileen “Sal” Mobley (John), Susie R. Scott (Carl); son-in-law, “Buzz” Reeves, and brother-in-law, Reverend Don Smith of Suwanee, Georgia. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Joe will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Left to cherish memories of their sixty-seven year marriage is his loving wife, Deannie; two daughters, Lynn R. Reeves of Heath Springs, and Shirley R. Williams (Victor) of Stuart, Virginia; granddaughter Courtney Dean Williams of Collinsville, Virginia; two grandsons, Carlton Reeves (Jennifer) of Heath Springs, Craig Reeves (Jill) of Hanahan, South Carolina; three great-grandsons, who called him “Joe Joe” – Braxton, Blaine, and Brayden of Heath Springs.

Joe is also survived by sister-in-law, Shirley H. Smith of Suwanee, Georgia, and special niece and nephew, Allison and Scott Smith. Included also are special nephews, Mike Scott of Augusta (Joan), Pat Scott (Nancy) of Kershaw, Tim Scott, also of Kershaw, Charles Mobley (Shelly) of Savannah, Georgia, and several great nieces and nephews.

He leaves a host of dear and wonderful friends from his many years at Springs Industries, his church family and Sunday School class, and very special neighbors.

Friends may pay their respects and sign the register on Saturday, January 30, from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw. The family will not be present.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 1st, at the Kershaw City Cemetery, 190 Kirkland Avenue, Kershaw, with Reverend Ronnie Hinson and Dr. Jason Moss officiating. The family will receive extended family and friends after the service at the cemetery. All attendees are requested to wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
