Charles Ray Hinson

A funeral service for Charles Ray Hinson, 84, of Kershaw, SC, will be held at 3:00 o’clock p.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2016, in the sanctuary of Midway Baptist Church. The Revs. Randall Runion and Steve Warren will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hinson passed away peacefully, Saturday evening, December 3, at KershawHealth, Camden, SC. Born in Kershaw, SC, he was a son of the late Cletus Leonard and Margaret Hilton Hinson. Mr. Hinson taught school for 30 years and coached for 45 years. He started his career at Bethune High School, moving on to Andrew Jackson High School, Lancaster High School and retired from North Central High School in 1988. He also loved all types of sports and enjoyed reading and fishing. Mr. Hinson was a member of Midway Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School secretary and had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He also served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Sara Catoe Hinson of the home; a daughter, Susan Hinson Plyler and her husband Steve of Kershaw, SC; 2 sons, Tim Hinson and his wife Amy of Lexington, SC and Will Hinson and his wife Amanda of McDonough, GA.; 7 grandchildren, Liz Plyler, Dawson Hinson, Abby Hinson, Saralyn Hinson, Clayton Dover, Colton Dover and Reagan Hinson; a brother, Jerry Hinson and his wife Jewel Dean of Kershaw and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Hinson.

The family will receive friends, Tuesday, December 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home.
