Charles Ray Hartis

Charles Ray Hartis, age 70, of Camden, S.C., formerly of Bethune, S.C., passed away, Monday, January 27, 2020, at Providence Health, Columbia. Born in Charlotte, N.C., he was a son of Elaine Newman Hartis and the late Luther Hartis. Mr. Hartis retired from DuPont Co. and was a member of Timrod Baptist Church, Bethune. He was an avid Clemson Tiger fan and in earlier years enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Hartis also was a United States Army veteran.

Surviving in addition to his mother of Camden are his daughter, Tammie H. Broughton and her husband Greg of Heath Springs; 4 grandchildren, Eric S. Broughton and his wife Courtney of Lancaster, Rae Ashlie Broughton, Mary Kelsie Broughton and Brenna Katherine Broughton all of Heath Springs; 2 brothers, Gene Hartis and his wife Faye and Larry Hartis all of Camden, adopted sister, Cathy Blackwell and her husband Rex of Hartsville; special friend, Susan Martin of Camden; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted, Friday, January 31, 2020, at 3:00 p.m., from the sanctuary of Timrod Baptist Church, Bethune. The Revs. Jeremy Ussery and Joe Stines will officiate.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church Fellowship Hall and prior to the service Friday, beginning at 12:00 noon at 4070 Timrod Road, Bethune.

The burial will be held, Monday, February 3, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, S.C., with military honors.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Hartis may be made to Pinedale Residential Care Center, 798 Hermitage Pond Road, Camden, S.C. 29020.
