Funeral services for Cena Gretna Catoe Broome, 93, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2010, in Baker Conference Center, 105 N. Minor Street, Kershaw. Burial will follow in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Broome widow of William Broome died Wednesday evening, September 22, in KershawHealth, Camden. Born in Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Gary, Sr. and Dessie Neal Catoe. She was a weaver in the textile industry and retired after 36 years. Mrs. Broome was the founder and sole librarian of Midway Baptist Church Library. She was a long time teacher of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class and also served as church secretary. She was an avid nature lover and gardener and was delighted in giving away the fruits of her labor. Although she was not a biological mother, she devoted her life to the care of many siblings, nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, great-great nieces and nephews.

Surviving are a sister; Mary C. Hunter of Kershaw , 2 sisters-in-law, Annie Loutee Catoe and Peggy Catoe of Ogden, Utah, nieces and nephews; Penny Hunter (Rick) of Camden, Ben Jenkins, Becky Vincent, Scott Catoe (Pam), Tommy Hunter (Mary), Susan McNaughton, all of Kershaw, Jackson Hunter (Christine) of Lancaster and Gary Catoe of Utah. Also surviving are 5 great nieces, 9 great nephews, 1 great-great niece and 4 great-great nephews. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers; Bill Catoe, George Catoe, O C Catoe and Eugene Catoe, 2 sisters; Lillie Mae Catoe and Lula Bess Jenkins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cena Broome Memorial Prayer Garden Fund, care of Midway Baptist Church, 7760 Old Jefferson Highway, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.

The family will receive friends, Saturday, September 25, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at he home of her niece, 3816 Meadowview Road, Kershaw.
