Caryl Jean Rehrig was born on April 21, 1947, in Savannah, Georgia and went home to be with Jesus on August 31, 2024. From a young age, she was filled with love for her family—her mom, dad, brother, and sister—and cherished the memories of riding horses during her childhood. She graduated from Groves High School in 1965. Shortly after graduation, she traveled to Pennsylvania to visit her aunt and uncle. It was there she met the love of her life, Burdell Rehrig, and the two were married on July 16, 1966.
Caryl had a passion for teaching and found great fulfillment in her years of service at Carbon County Christian School. Her gift for connecting with and helping children continued when she later became an assistant to children with special needs at the CLIU.
In the fall of 2006, Caryl and Burdell made the move to Lancaster, South Carolina, to be closer to their son Shannon, daughter-in-law Jen, and their two cherished grandsons, Alexander and Jonathan. Caryl’s love for her family was evident in everything she did, and she took great pride in being a mother and grandmother. Her family meant the world to her, and her love for them was unwavering.
She was a person of steadfast love, a guiding light to all who knew her. Her kindness and generosity were boundless, and she touched countless lives through her small, meaningful acts of love.
Always thoughtful, Caryl never forgot a birthday. She delighted in calling family and friends, making sure they felt special on their day. A master of the art of sending cards, she found joy in marking both big and small moments with words of encouragement, comfort, or simple joy.
But what truly defined Caryl was her deep, abiding faith. She was a woman of prayer—whether it was silently in her journal or out loud for others, her heart was always lifted toward God. No matter the circumstances, she was a source of spiritual strength, constantly praying for those she loved and for people she barely knew. Her greatest desire was for everyone she encountered to know the love of Jesus.
Caryl lived her life as a reflection of her faith. Whether through her quiet acts of service, her gentle words of encouragement, or the way she walked through life with grace, she embodied the teachings of Jesus Christ. Her love for others was an expression of her love for God, and she shared this love freely and without hesitation. She will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and all those whose lives she touched with her boundless compassion, her kind heart, and her dedication to teaching, serving others, and sharing God's love.
