After his retirement as a residential home builder, Bruce started a second career teaching carpentry to the inmates at Kershaw Correctional Institution. He imparted not only practical skills but also shared life lessons that would benefit them long after their release.

Bruce was an athlete in high school, playing football and baseball for the Kershaw Eagles. He played first base on the 1954 South Carolina State Championship team and the 1955 State Championship runner-up team.

He is survived by his children, Martha Neal of Columbia, S.C., Darrell Neal (Donna) of Columbia, S.C. and Kevin Neal (Kim) of McDonough, Georgia; and six grandchildren, Emily Neal, Madison Neal, Caitlyn Neal, Kennedy Neal, Tyler Cooley (Leah) and Austin Cooley who remember him as the very best dad and Paw Paw Bruce. He is also survived by his brothers, Rev. Dr. Archie Neal, and Rev. Steve (Carol) Neal and numerous nieces and nephews. His many friends and family will fondly remember Bruce for his contagious smile and infectious laugh.
