Betty Lou Mahaffey

Betty Lou West Mahaffey, 92, of Kershaw, passed away, Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at Lancaster Health and Rehabilitation. Born in Kershaw, she was a daughter of the late Boyd West and Annie Crow West. Mrs. Mahaffey was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church and was a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class at the church. She retired as a floral designer with West’s Florist and Gifts after 25 years and later became a beloved sales associate with B.C. Moore and Sons in Kershaw. She had an infectious smile and a zest for life. She also enjoyed Carolina Beach music and Shag dancing. Her favorite saying was “Bless your darling heart”. Her caring heart will forever be remembered by those who she knew and loved. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Mahaffey, Sr. in 1971; a brother, Paul Howard West, Sr. and a sister, Reba W. Hammond.

Surviving are her 2 daughters, Donna M. Caskey and her husband, Dale of Lancaster and Pam M. Dabney and her husband, Rick of Columbia ; her son, Paul E. Mahaffey, Jr. of Myrtle Beach; 5 grandchildren, Noel Caskey, Aimee C. Watson, Matt Dabney, Ethan Mahaffey and Haley Mahaffey; a great granddaughter, Addison Watson; a sister, Mary Ann W. Byrd of Lancaster and a sister-in-law, Carol B. West of Liberty Hill.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 o’clock p.m., Friday afternoon, May 1, in Lancaster Memorial Park, Lancaster. Rev. Dr. Brian Saxon will officiate. Burial will follow in the cemetery.

The family will acknowledge friends following the service at the cemetery.
