Betty Jo Coates Holcomb

Betty Jo Coates Holcomb, 86, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Monday, September 28, 2020, at her home. Born in Kershaw, S.C., she was a daughter of the late William Tommy Coates and Mabel Baker Coates. Mrs. Holcomb was a retired telephone operator and a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. She loved to cook, work crossword puzzles, go to yard sales, bird watching and reading papers. She treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Holcomb also enjoyed being a member of the Janie Hunter Sunday School Class at her church.

Surviving are her 2 sons, Wayne (Gayle) Holcomb and William Sanford “Sandy” (Leigh) Holcomb, Jr.; 6 grandchildren, Dwayne Holcomb, Amanda (Herbie) Mulqueen, Richard Holcomb ,Allison (Ben Baker) Holcomb, William Travis Holcomb and Amber Jo Holcomb; 6 great grandchildren, Caleb Holcomb, Tyler Holcomb, Kameron Baker, Ben Baker, Logan Baker and Peyton Mulqueen; siblings, Douglas Coates, Joan Johnson, Annette (Quincy) Faile, Geraldine (Lonnie) Truesdale; 2 sisters-in-law, Yvonne Coates and Patti Coates. In addition to her parents ,she was preceded in death by her husband, William Sanford “Bill” Holcomb; her son, Allen Dean Holcomb and siblings, Hazel Coates, Tommy Coates, Jr., Larry Coates, Val Coates and Shirley Hunter.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 o’clock p.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2020, in Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Jackie Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the cemetery,

The family will receive friends following the service in the cemetery.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Holcomb may be made to Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 603 Oak Ridge Church Road, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.
